The Menu: Your Key to Success

Promotions and deals can really get customers in seats, but they aren’t the only ways to increase sales and success. Your menu is a great tool for increasing revenue, attracting new customers, and gaining more repeat diners.

Here are some great ways to power-up your menu:

  • Drop the dollar sign: Research shows customers will pay more if they don’t see the dollar symbol on the menu.
  • Write well: Effective menu descriptions can drive sales of high-profit items and increase incremental sales to boost your check averages.
  • Place it right: The items that are first and last on the menu are more likely to be ordered—put your highest grossing items there.
  • Get graphic: Symbols like “NEW!” and “House Special” can steer customers toward high-profit menu items.

Your menu is your most important marketing tool.  And as most operators know, the better your staff knows the menu, the more satisfied customers will be.

Although your menu can drive sales, it’s the overall dining experience and food quality that keep customers coming back.  Start with your menu and let the rest of the operation follow suit.
