Ensuring Food Safety at Every Step
Perdue starts with its own breed of chicken
Considered unique to the industry, the PERDUE® chicken is the product of an all-natural process of selective breeding. Our meatier birds are bred from our own pedigree stock to grow more efficiently and are raised without the use of hormones and steroids.
Perdue uses all-natural feed ingredients
We manufacture our own poultry feeds in fully licensed facilities in compliance with FDA regulations.
Food safety starts on the farm
We have documented and audited Best Management Practices for live production.
- On-farm food safety measures begin with our breeder operations.
- Food-safety-focused Best Management Practices (BMPs) are in place in all of our breeder, hatchery, feedmill and growout operations.
- Perdue conducts food safety audits on each of its live production operations every year.
Food safety comes first at our processing facilities
We monitor for food safety before our chickens or turkeys arrive at the processing plant.
- We test each flock prior to processing to ensure our products are free of any pesticides.
- Strict adherence to FDA guidelines ensures that Perdue poultry is free of antibiotic residues at processing.
Documented and audited Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) set food safety protocols for all of our processing facilities.
- Each of our processing plants is completely sanitized before the start of each work day.
- Antibacterial hand-washes and footwear baths guard against contamination.
Written "HACCP "plans ensure adherence to strict government food safety standards.
- HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) is a science-based food safety program that monitors critical steps throughout the processing plant to prevent food safety hazards. In fact, Perdue Farms was a pioneer in developing HACCP, which is now a government-required standard for the industry.
- Perdue's HACCP programs include constant monitoring and testing of products by Perdue and the USDA.
Our inspection and monitoring standards far exceed those required by the government.
- Each Perdue processing facility has a Food Protection Manager certified by ServSafe, the leading food safety education program.
- Perdue's Quality Assurance managers are trained as Certified Food Safety Professionals, a designation recognized by the National Environmental Health Association, a leading public health organization.
Perdue Farms is the first poultry company to place Certified Food Safety Professionals in its processing plants.
- All of our processing plants have USDA inspectors.
- All of processing associates receive formal food safety training.
